Watson Pharmaceuticals (WPI) receives FDA approval on its Abbreviated New Drug Application for Irbesartan Tablets, a treatment for hypertension and diabetic nephropathy. Irbesartan is the generic equivalent to Sanofi's (SNY) Avapro. The company plans to begin shipping immediately. For the 12 months ending August 31, Avapro and its generic equivalents had total U.S. sales of approximately $390M.
