Rio Tinto Alcan (RIO) reportedly is studying its options, including whether to seek the reopening of collective agreements, as it moves to cut costs over the next 12-18 months to offset a tough global market for aluminum. RIO met yesterday with auto workers union reps to discuss employee concerns, cost-reduction efforts and the planned closure of its cathode facility in Arvida.
