Alcatel-Lucent (ALU +4.7%) plans to slash almost 5,500 jobs globally as part of €1.25B of cost cuts that it first announced in July. ALU will chop 3,300 positions in EMEA, including 1,490 in France, which is sure to put the company on a collision course with the government.
