AOL's just-launched Alto Web e-mail client, which aggregates Gmail, Yahoo Mail, AOL Mail, and iCloud messages in one inbox, is receiving favorable reviews. PC world notes Alto and its novel, Twitter-like UI "seems like a perfect fir for touchscreens" - a mobile-optimized version is arriving in Q1. Separately, AOL is promising its much-maligned Patch local news unit, which recently saw big layoffs, will be profitable by the end of 2013.
