AIG agrees to pay $11M to settle a multi-state probe into its handling of death benefits and agrees in the future to check its roles of policyholders against a SSA database to track down beneficiaries of those who have passed without a claim being entered.

    The first person the insurance company should contact is the writing or servicing agent. I have been in this business for 42 years, and can't believe that companies bypass the agent all the time, on claims and service matters. These issues present opportunities for both the company and the producer..........
