More on Aflac (AFL): Q3 beats on all fronts on a 14% rise in total revenue. Net earnings rose 38% as the life insurer benefited from strength in its Japan operations and better margins from investment gains. The company also raised its FY12 operating earnings estimates and upped its dividend by 6.1%.

  • Aflac's Quarter Was Even Better...

    -Float increased over 6%
-Underwriting profits remained strong at 5.5%
-Share buyback announced equaling half of 1% of share count
    -Minimal portfolio impairments (finally)
-RBC ratio up nearly 10% to 590% (Kirsch team doing great)
-Investment returns improved and diversified away from yen
-Return on Equity now at 25% operating basis

What a wonderful company. As for the moat, it strengthened too..persistency improved during quarter, and debt funding costs relative to peers improved as well. It doesn't get much better than this, folks.

  • I agree. Sounds good but it's down in after hours trading, probably due to the "disappointing" US revenue. I'm happy, though. I got in at $39.

  • Also, could be down in after hours due to the downward revision to Q4 estimate. Both reasons combined makes sense.
