Sales of Activision's (ATVI) Call of Duty: Black Ops game hit $360M in North America and the U.K. in the first 24 hours - 16% above the pace of last year's record-setting Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The new release is getting help from an expansion in the installed base of Xbox 360 (MSFT) and PlayStation 3 (SNE) consoles.

    Probably one of the more brilliant marketing campaigns in gaming history - with an NBA playoffs spot, along with a recent commercial featuring Kobe Bryant and Jimmy Kimmel.

     

    An inflated $60 price tag doesn't hurt either.
