AU Optronics (AUO) says it won't start mass-producing 4.3" AMOLED panels (aimed at smartphones) until somewhere in 2013 due to yield issues. The sooner AU can begin, the sooner Universal Display (PANL) can reduce its dependence on Samsung. Also: AU says it's continuing R&D work on OLED TV panels, but still needs to make "improvements" before large-scale production can begin. Samsung and LG are also having trouble on the OLED TV front. PANL's Q3 report arrives on Nov. 7.
