Nuclear expert Arnie Gundersen says there are 26 nuclear plants in the path of Hurricane Sandy, and the spent fuel pools in the plants don’t have backup pumps. The Oyster Creek (EXC) nuclear plant - one of the oldest in the U.S. and of the same design as Fukushima Unit 1 - is located near New Jersey’s shoreline in an area forecast to take a direct hit from the hurricane.

  • In other news, it's also predicted that the low pressure from Hurricane Sandy on the East Coast will trigger the San Andreas Fault, finally causing SoCal to slide into the ocean . . .

  • Calling Arnie Gunderson a Nuclear expert is like calling Ralph Nader an economics expert (BTW, I dig Ralph a lot) Gunderson HATES anything and everything nuclear and his title should be "Anti Nuclear Activist". He is horribly biased towards his unwavering position.
Otherwise, what he says in this instance is likely true.
If the worst storm ravages the coast and does nothing to these nuclear power plants and their storage, I will hold my breath until he says, "see? this is safe."
