More on Microsoft's (MSFT) Windows Phone 8 event: Jessica Alba was brought out to promote WP8's features, which include a Kid's Corner and a revamped People Hub for integrating contacts and social networking content. Then came a less popular celebrity, Steve Ballmer, to discuss Q4's hardware lineup. He disclosed Verizon (VZ), which reportedly won't get to offer Nokia's Lumia 920 for at least 6 months, will have an exclusive on Samsung's high-end Ativ S/Odyssey phone. (live blog)

One phone exclusive on AT&T, one phone exclusive on Verizon, and no Windows Phone 8 at Sprint. Quite the odd strategy for a launch. The iTunes sync may be part of the deal Microsoft and Apple made. Overall I think the launch of Surface went better than for Windows Phone 8.

Sigh! Altho I'm rooting for Nokia, I am not waiting 6 months for the 920 model to come to Verizon. They need to pull out all stops right now because google and apple are bringing out nice stuff! So I will go with the Note2 to hold me over for another year or so. I would have tried the 920 but someone is a complete failure at marketing!

You guys are really tied up to some companies, I see.
Over here, that would be irrelevant, cause no one bothers to chose a phone company over the other. We only have 3 choices, all with the same prices, down to the cent. So our only choice comes down to which logo we prefer? Vodafone, TMN, Optimus? That's it.

I had the chance to visit both a Best Buy and an AT&T store this weekend and the sales reps at Best Buy tried to talk me into an iphone while the At&t rep was very upbeat about the WP8 phones. Everyone I saw at Best Buy, Office Depot & Staples was excited about Windows 8. At least Ballmer didn't dance during the presentation.

I bought a Samsung Series 5 laptop, oh ultrabook at the end of April from Best Buy.

Excited because it was not Vista, Windows 7 still sucks, just a little less.

Then I tried to get the computer checked under its warrantee in HK and Shanghai, since the last HP purchase from Best Buy was a lemon, to no avail (despite the limited global warrantee badge preeminently badged on the keyboard).

So despite my dismay over Geek Squad and Best Buy's general lousy ability, I still bought the $350 warrantee.

In mid-Sept, I found the Samsung (my 2ry computer) broken, screen broken due to cheap materials. So I called Best Buy (now not in Cn), of how to get it repaired (it turned out even more problematic than even bringing it back to SF, the Geek Squad).

Now thinking of how much money is spent, Samsungs are not worth it.

By the way, the 2 Apple MacBooks I have bought since 2009, the cost of ownership is far less than any other, the 4 Windows laptops over the same time period. Shoddy Msft and Android products are forcing me to become an Apple addict.

Msft better have a far superior Surface laptop, just as Google Nexus phones define the expectation for its products (setting the standard).

"He disclosed Verizon (VZ), which reportedly won't get to offer Nokia's Lumia 920 for at least 6 months" -

Incredible.. instead of saying what Windows Phone 8 Verizon WILL be carrying (the very capable Lumia 822), you choose to state what it won't be carrying.

No bias here at all in the reporting, eh?
