  • Only three million? They needed to sell more. That's only three months worth of Nexus 7 devices. How is Apple going to survive with such weak sales?

    I'm kidding. Clearly.

  • Yep, better than not bad...
1 million per day...that's got to be faster than they can be made...and just think, that is only a part of the demand, the WiFi only buyers....that doesn't include the 3G/4G models yet....

That is far more than I would have expected since this is just an expansion into the smaller tablet space...

  • I have and iPad 3 and just received the mini.
In 2 minutes i was able to transfer all the settings and data and apps from my iPad to the mini.
Easiest setup i have ever experienced.
    Another fantastic product.
Only drawback is the price but for my money it was more than worth it.

  • You have resale value in 1 year you can sell the iPad Mini for 200 dollars, the price of a Nexus 7, or a Fire whatever.

  • BTW, they lump the iPad and iPad mini sales together. That's depressing.

  • Depressing? Not sure how... assume most of the iPad sales were minis to the extent they had them; the point is they sold 3mil total, which is a really good start on what was a bad weekend (particularly in the East).

  • Some reports say 2 million iPad Mini's, 1 million iPad 3's in 3 day's still more than the Nexus 7 thru out it's entire history.

  • A beat by QCOM will help AAPL. I love to see it at 550. I like the IPTV space. J.C. says TWC will never let it happen. Does make you wonder about Warren's purchase of Viacom though. He bought it before Viacom's billion dollar need for more money from us. The FTC is the FTC. Where were they with Viacom? France, Brazil, does any one remember when the news and T.V. was free. Just like the governments wanting to tax us more.

  • Good news and bad news. The good news is the mini will be the most popular iPad Apple has, the bad news is what it will do to iPad 3 sales.

  • Opinions are like belly buttons, everyone has one!
IMHO, I think the Mini is going to do fine in sales. I have the 3rd gen iPad, and am thinking about the mini but it seems kind of frivolous to have both. I'm still having a great time with my iPad.
I just think they will gain more attention over time and with commercial use adopting them and schools also buying (full size pads), plus private party usage, I think waiting for quarterly revenue, sales, etc., will be worth the wait cause it is going to impress and improve over time.
I don't feel cannibalization is going to be a problem with more and more people being pulled into the ease of synching, using, and overall high quality of Apple products.
I'll take plastic over paper in the grocery store but not plastic over metal in the electronics store.
    Thanks

  • Tim Cook stated himself.. they would rather be the ones to cannibalize their own products then another competitor.

  • I just read an article that it costs at least $188 to make an IPad Mini. The breakdown was very accurate. Do people want to sacrifice Apples quality for slower price. It seems you buy an apple product and it is made rock solid. There is a cost for quality. We're just not used to it in this country because of how much crap is in the marketplace.Apple should be applauded for making high quality products for the masses and then understanding how to sell them

  • Naysayers, don't sell your AAPL before holding an iPad mini in your hand. It's light, bright, and right.

  • iOS is still in single digits as far as global web traffic is concerned. That being said, it means unreal marketshare yet to be captured. AAPL the first trillion dollar market cap is coming.

  • But 85-90% of all mobile tablet traffic on the web. Most of the Android products aren't used on the web, and if its not used on the web that doesn't help developers. There is a disconnect between sold and actually used on the web.

  • Are you kidding? A piece of positive news about AAPL finally?

Total iPad sales of 3mil at an average selling price of $500 (let's say) and margins of about 40% on them equals $600mil of earnings.

Oh by the way that's $600mil more than the minus number for every Kindle sold.

OK - no more commentary! - how about some trading ideas for those using options:

Jan or Feb 600/680 call spread (no margin required, about $17 for the spread) or 600/700 call spread (if you feel 700 will be breached, about $18.50) are nice entry points just out of the money and get you a basis of around 617-618, not out of the realm of reality for Jan-Feb.

Alternatively, in the money 550/640 call spreads also good value around $37, no margin required.

Those prices are Friday's close prices. It will be different on the open today but still in the range.

  • Why are people STILL talking about going long AAPL.. especially with options? Every single profitable trade has been a short or put option play. The trend has been unmistakably down and any call buyers the past month or two have lost 100% of their investment.
