You aren't a real macro trader until you've gotten burned shorting JGBs. Enough hedge funds have slunk away from this trade, tail between legs, that few talk about it anymore. Yet the facts remain - a staggering public debt, an anemic economy, and an aging society beginning to draw down its savings.

"A staggering public debt, an anemic economy, and an aging society beginning to draw down its savings." could have similar implications for U.S. Treasuries.

Last time I checked, the US still attracts plenty of immigrants (legally or illegally) and their demographics are completely different presently and for the forseeable future. The only similarity is the "staggering public debt", which by any measure, is no where even close to the relative debt Japan owes.

Sure, anyone can argue that the US can become Japan but whats the timeline? I also predict it will rain sometime between now and forever.
