Movie studios increasingly look to sell off the foreign distributor rights to upcoming movie projects in an effort to line up financing. Once the game plan of scrappy independent producers, big players such as Sony (SNE -0.3%), DreamWorks (DWA +0.8%), and Paramount Pictures (VIAB +0.2%) are now looking to hedge their risk on projects with limited sequel opportunities by slicing off the international piece.
