VirnetX (VHC) +28.6% following its legal win against Apple. Though the ruling was related to FaceTime, VirnetX's VPN patents could theoretically be asserted against many other products - the company is also suing Cisco, Avaya, and Siemens. An Apple (AAPL) attorney sounds defiant: "VirnetX is not entitled to money for things they did not invent. The VirnetX technology, if used, is a small part of very large, complex products." Samsung and Google probably feel the same away about some other patents. (PR)

It is becoming rapidly evident that AAPL management has a perspective that in and of itself could destroy the company.

Ironic quote of the week " An Apple attorney sounds defiant: "VirnetX is not entitled to money for things they did not invent. The VirnetX technology, if used, is a small part of very large, complex products."

@Silvy - you mean Apple didn't invent the rectangle (w/ rounding corners)? Wow! And to think I was so impressed with Apple when they released their first rectangle phone...I was like "wow, first we put a man on the moon, now we have public companies inventing and innovating things like rectangle phones!" What will Apple come up with next - will they patent a round steering wheel for our cars and then sue everyone who dares to use it!

At least the VHC patent is a genuine technological innovation...and ironically they are getting 1/3 the damages that Samsung had to pay for using Apple's rectangle...

@Prismatic Reminds me of when the internal combustion engine was new, someone sued Ford over it's use, but Ford was using 4-stroke vs the 2-stroke that was Patented. (Told ya I was old)
I actually like the so called "Patent Trolls" as they actually do some good towards alerting companies like Apple that they best research patents and expect to pay for other people's work like they insist on others paying for theirs.
