BP is ordered to pay $255M to Alaska for royalties the state lost because of production shutdowns after two North Slope oil spills in 2006 and a subsequent pipeline replacement project. The spills were traced to BP's failure to regularly clean and inspect two of its pipelines over the course of several years.

    BP must appeal
    doc4...disagree, and here is why:

what is taken from you or a business by a government (by whatever means) is a TAX (kindest articulation) on YOU and everyone else within the domain of that government

a government is the most greedy entity on earth...and most inefficient
with very few exceptions [US is not in the domain of exception]

is it fair to say: this country was founded by rebellion because of government greed?

If memory serves, that pipeline is owned in partnership with other oil companies...so, in my mind, ALL those in partnership with BP have share in cost and profit from operations. are they all guilty of "can't do anything right"?

if correct, one can imply businesses "can't do much 'right'"...but government can do nothing wrong?
but businesses are people: conclusion -- people "can't do much 'right'"...but government can do nothing wrong?

clearly facts cannot support such a conclusion:

people do much right most of the time, and truly try too...to kick a person that is doing their best [we don't know otherwise] is down right stupid on the part of government/legal and can be viewed by many as harmful and backward

Why should royalties be guaranteed during unfortunate production shutdowns?? That does not seem fair.

I agree, BP should not pay unearned royalties to greedy Alaska gov.
But also should not pay endless legal fees for appeals. No winners here but the lawyers. What a waste of resources.
