Timothy Geithner will stay on as Treasury Secretary until at least Pres. Obama's inauguration on Jan. 21, White House press secretary Jay Carney said on Friday, adding that Geithner is a "key participant" in the talks to avert the fiscal cliff. Geithner has already said he doesn't plan to stay on for a second Obama term; his possible successors include White House Chief of Staff Jack Lew.

Although I haven't been a big fan of his in the past, I think because of his probable ability to help calm polarization between the parties, President Obama should now court Michael Bloomberg for Treasury Secretary. He might actually be a great one.

I also think one thing the President would be widely applauded for is giving several Cabinet posts to Centrist, Big Tent Republicans. The more dramatic, the better! Olympia Snowe at Commerce? John Huntsman as Secretary of State?
