A new crackdown by Apple on incentivized iOS ads, partly blamed by Glu Mobile (GLUU) for its weak Q4 guidance, is aimed at paid app download enablers such as Tapjoy, the subject of a harsh weekend column from Michael Arrington. Tapjoy allows developers such as Glu to monetize apps by getting users to download apps from other developers (who are paying Tapjoy) in exchange for virtual goods. The company accounted for 15.6% of Glu's Q3 revenue (per its Q3 10-Q).
