As expected, Microsoft (MSFT) has unveiled plans to tightly integrate Yammer with its SharePoint collaboration platform. Common user IDs, shared document management, and integrated e-mail, IM, and videoconferencing features are in the cards, as are subscription bundles that range from $4-$8/user/month. Yammer wants to be the Facebook of enterprise social networking, though Jive (JIVE) and (via Chatter) won't let that happen without a fight.

This is a very good match with Microsoft Link and could become another indispensable tool for business people. These capabilities are not sexy but become essential methods for improving effectiveness and productivity. This is where MSFT makes themselves essential to organizations of any size and helps them secure the annuity streams. How they grow the consumer side of their business is far less obvious as they seem to still think that game is about technology.
