Paul Tudor Jones made some big bets on tech in Q3. He picked up over 93K shares of Apple (AAPL), 100K shares of Facebook (FB), 150K shares of Groupon (GRPN), and nearly 250K shares of Zynga (ZNGA). The Groupon and Zynga positions can't be faring well, assuming Tudor Jones held on. He also bailed out of a 293K-share position in Virgin Media (VMED). (13F)

    I wish I could afford 93,000 shares of AAPL! I can't even count that high.

    Such reckless commenting. Some of those could easily be hedges for positions in which he's short.

    That's why these holdings reports are pointless without getting the whole picture.

    Good point of view, dab3z. Exactly what could be shorting?
    * Long speculation, short fundamentals?
    * Long social media, short established players (msft, goog?)

    Isn't this easy to determine by looking at older 13Fs? I'm not up on 13F disclosure rules for shorts, either straight or synthetic.

    @dab3z - I think Colin was referring to the fact that these stocks have underperformed the market so regardless of any hedging, he sure isn't doing well.
