More on NetApp: Along with the report, NetApp disclosed it has bought CacheIQ, developer of a storage box that caches frequently-used files on DRAM and flash memory, and figures out which ones to cache using proprietary software. Many have suggested NetApp needs to buy a flash storage hardware firm to keep pace with EMC and IBM's moves (I, II). But on its earnings call, NetApp suggested its goal was to acquire IP that bolsters its existing flash offerings, such as its Flash Cache cards and Flash Accel server software.
