Nokia's (NOK) Here iOS Maps app (previous) hit the App Store this morning, and is already surging up the leaderboard - it's not hard to guess why. After trying out Here, The Verge's Aaron Souppouris calls Nokia's maps "far richer than Apple's," but also criticizes the app's bugs and shortage of public transit data. Meanwhile, AllThingsD's John Paczkowski observes the Lumia 920 has reached Amazon's bestseller list for cell phones with service plans - the white and black models are currently at #12 and #13, behind several Galaxy S III versions. Update: Commenter scavok notes the 920 is back-ordered 1-2 weeks on Amazon, something that likely affects its ranking.  (German 920 sales) (Google Maps)

I'm pretty sure the 920 did top the Amazon best sellers (someone linked as such on SA) even if only for a short while.

These are all Verizon and Sprint. The 920 is only available on AT&T...

    Where it's 3, 5, 7 & 10; neck and neck with the S3s.

The requirement to switch carriers to get the phone will limit it's ability to get to number 1 in all carriers. Shame, but it looks like they'll need a bigger factory before they make it available on Verizon & Sprint anyway.

I just saw the Here version on my brothers' iPhone. Not bad, NOKIA MAPS in 920 definitely so much better. Read the reviews as well 50/50. 5 stars and 1 star. One review states " Nokia needs to hire a designer cause this maps lacks luster and retina display" rated 1 star. lol what???? others were even better w/ rate 1 star. What ungrateful haters. Its free!

Nokia maps on the 920 will be a native app. On the iPhone/Android, Nokia's Here will probably be a web app.

The Symbian version is better still. I expect some of the features will migrate to the WP8 & then iOS/Android versions as they put out updates. I know for a fact they have public transit info on the WP version. I use it regularly in EU land, and it rocks.

The drop on the amazon lists is due to the all versions of the phone being backordered for 1-2 weeks.

oh maybe this confirms a question I had before, does the amazon top seller list only count actual products shipped? Or does it include orders that aren't yet shipped?

I think it accounts the products shipped or full amount paid. For back-ordered, I don't think they charge you the full amount right away!

Amazon doesn't charge until it ships if I recall that's how my last purchase went.

Isn't Walmart's price $49.99? Why would anyone buy a 920 from Amazon unless he couldn't get it from Walmart?

Today Nokia is up like a rocket. Feel sorry for Nokia-bashers as they will get to eat humble pie for Thanksgiving. Looks like short covering by the shorts is responsible for the most of the jump in Nokia today.

Well the smart shorters are seeing the traction the 920 is getting and are getting out now. Short squeeeeze. Kinda depressing for them right before the Holidays as you said, though. :(

Institutions are also starting to buy up. Strap on your seatbelts guys!!

@stealthology, IMO if it was indeed shorts who were covering their positions the stock would have jumped a lot higher and it would also have opened around $3:50/$3.80 - that is what I would have called as shorts running for the cover.

Nokia PR has been unusually quiet as well - which is a bit discerning, does anybody have pointers to the contrary?

This Friday and Monday will be the deciding moment to see if shorts are indeed on the run (which I very much doubt).

I was losing weight when it went down to $1.63. Got back on the scale this morning and surprise, I gained 2 lbs. But I think the scale is off by at least 3 lbs. Go Nokia! my health depends on you.
