After steadily climbing today on volume over 2x its daily average, Nokia (NOK +13.7%) is at levels last seen in August. Optimism regarding Lumia 920 sales following some positive datapoints (I, II) could be a factor, though Swedish i-bank Handelsbanken cautioned this morning early Lumia 800/900 sales triggered a similar response. SA's Jacob Steinberg pointed out today net institutional ownership of Nokia has been rising.

  • Lumia 920 is a much more superior product than 800/900 phones. Technically, monthly buy signal triggered today on NOK

  • I took some 2.00 Jan 2014 calls off the table this afternoon but remain very long NOK in both common and some other long call positions. This has been a painful stock to own over the last several months but I continue to believe in the turnaround.

  • NOK will reach breakeven in Q4, with strong Lumia and NSN sales.

However, the key quarter is Q1, coz everything will turn into smoke if the landing point in Q1 is low:
    - carriers are reducing their expenses (NSN sales will be impacted)
    - featured phone business will collapse, question is how much
    - how will L920 cope with HTC 8X competition

In conclusion: take & enjoy your gains before Q1 release :-)

  • Same here Leon, i have no doubts. Nokia is playing golf right now. Its against itself and no one else. All birdies so far, but being par is a good thing in this game.

  • I like it! That makes all of us with a lower cost basis feel even better. We all just need to hang in there and not act on emotions. Good things are right around the corner.

Can I smell retirement at age 28? Hmm. Lol. I have a significant holding in NOK.

  • Just wanted to update I got my Lumia on Wednesday and so far it's been a dream, fast, reliable thus far and the really only drawback is the lack of functioning apps, which I think will correct once developers take WP8 seriously (ie sales numbers start coming in worldwide).

    SA Wheres the WP8 App!

  • What app do you need that you cant find?
    26 Nov 2012, 01:01 PM Reply Like
  • I stated 'functioning' app only because some of them that I have are pretty buggy and prone to crashes.

An SA app would be nice though, and I couldn't find that listed anywhere. Oh and Blockbuster (I am sub'ed to their movie mailing service couldn't find the app for that either).

  • Search for blueflix on the marketplace. Doesnt' show up for me, but i am not in the us, but according to the developer it does what you want. see

You must be selecting the wrong apps. The only app that I have come across that is buggy is Zynga's words with friends, and the reviews on the store reflect it.

  • Zynga's WwF is one of the apps I also have issues with... I'll check out Blueflix maybe they changed names or something (although on my iPhone it's still Blockbuster).

  • for what its worth you should consider an online movie streaming service (all blockbusters where I live have closed up shop) like netflix, xbox video, etc.
    26 Nov 2012, 02:51 PM Reply Like
  • blockbuster has a netflix like service, it's not widely known (as far as I can tell) but it's equal or better to netflix's movie by mail service. We have started redboxing a lot more too. I havent seen a brick and mortar blockbuster since they called it quits on them (3 years ago now? can't recall).
