A liquefied natural gas tanker chartered by Gazprom is set to become the first of its type to sail across the Arctic, potentially opening up a new trade route to Asia and saving 40% of the shipping distance from Norway to Japan. Ice conditions along the route have become more favorable in recent years, the commercial director at the ship’s owner tells the BBC.
