While Gene Munster reports of light activity at a Minneapolis Microsoft Store, the Financial Times reports Redmond is talking to U.K. landlords about opening flagship stores within the country. Right now, Microsoft's (MSFT -1.6%) retail stores - the only places consumers can try a Surface tablet in person - are all in North America.

  • MSFT's dumb idea not to let Best Buy / Walmart / AT&T / Verizon help with the physical marketing... people are going to want to get hands on these things before they buy...

MSFT gets more disappointing as the year goes on. On a lighter note my Lumia 920 is excellent, love most everything about it.

  • I think they were hoping to avoid the debacle seen with HP and their touchpad. Keep supplies limited and test out the market before proceeding to a full launch

  • Your article proves my point... upon release none of the stores mentioned had them on display for sale. Thanks

I am glad though to see that they realize that att and verizon should both have surfaces in their brick and mortars, next walmart/best buy

  • To your point MSFT was dumb for not letting Verizon sell or market their products yet the article proves otherwise. Upon release is another matter.

Not sure why people believe MSFT was dumb for not blitzing every single retailer right out the gate. MSFT has to prove their products deserve valuable retail space. Remember MSFT has produced blunders in their past.

  • Gene Munster is a hack whose only job for the past many years has been to pump Apple stock. He predicted that we'd all be watching Apple TVs by now...
