The iPhone 5's supply constraints may be diminishing, but the iPad Mini's are another matter. Apple (AAPL) still shows 2-week shipping times for the Mini, and Digitimes reports low yields for AU Optronics' (AUO) LCD panels could lead to only 6M Minis being shipped in calendar Q4, below Apple's target of 10M. Also, a Chinese paper claims Apple requested AU halt panel shipments due to a high defect rate. LG Display (LPL) is said to be taking up a greater share of Mini panel shipments due to AU's issues, but is also reportedly having trouble meeting demand for next-gen iMac panels.

But the mini is low margin and doesn't matter.

Gosh. Now I'm starting to sound like an AMZN bull. I win no matter what happens!

You've got all these so called "expert analysts" running around trying to get a read on individual parts for the iPhone and iPad and waving their arms around saying "the sky is falling". How utterly ridiculous. I don't know if anyone has been keeping track, but I have... most of these guys don't end up knowing sh_t.

Exactly how many times do these guys have to be wrong before investors just start to ignore them and move on because there just isn't any value added? This is all very exhausting.

4M units short - let's assume average sales price is $400 (I am generous here), and margin is 30%; This would mean $480M less profit. Would be a great deal to many companies, but not apple... LAST year they made $17.3B operating profit in the Oct-Dec Quarter, and this year will be far above this.
And kids want the regular sized iPad, and other potential mini buyers will get their tablet of choice then in January... No big deal.

I by the way have seen the mini already pop up at small "independent" mom & pop resellers in Dubai and even Saudi Arabia - for a nice premium. So there is some supply.

As the iPhone 5 by the way, I have seen it in a lot of hands of people in Europe (London, Germany) - and not just young tech guys, but all demographics - business people, grandmas, taxi drivers... And you can get it in the Middle East as well, the 16GB model with a nice premium for $1100, e.g., at an airport in a smaller city in Saudi.

    And people buy.

    This quarter will be blow-away.
