Heard on American Eagle Outfitters (AEO +7.9%) earnings call: 1) Marketing costs expected to rise as the company aims to open 150 to 175 new U.S. factory locations. 2) The competitive retail atmosphere is expected to run through the holiday shopping season, but AEO says it will "selectively" pull back from promotional activity. 3) Higher cotton prices could be a factor moving forward. 4) Lower inventory expected moving into the first half of next year which should help push markdown rate lower. 5) Aerie brand now profitable with underwear and bra lines on-trend.
