“The utopia for one stop sourcing for quality and low price has been China... but utopias never last,” says Collective Brands (PSS) CEO Matt Rubel, who is shifting production to Indonesia as Chinese wages continue to bolt higher. Just a tiny rumbling beneath the powerhouse Chinese economy.

The guitars coming out of China are absurdly cheap for the level of quality they produce. Their copies are better than the more expensive official mexican fender versions. The amstrats lately have had horrible qc issues. Martin's DX (bottom of the line) is absolute crap compared to anything being put out by Eastman. I realize that the plural of anecdote is not data, but with respect to guitars, China is kicking all sorts of ass at the working man price points (sub $1k).
