Larry Page met with FTC officials yesterday in an effort to settle the agency's long-running antitrust probe of Google (GOOG), a source tells Bloomberg. Google has reportedly been talking with the FTC for a week about a settlement, and wants to make sure any deal isn't bound by a consent decree. A report last week suggested the FTC is starting to doubt it can win a case related to its most serious concern: that Google is using its search dominance to unfairly promote other services.

There is no way that the FTC has the courage to go after Google. Obama and Eric Shmidt are WAY to close. Won't happen.
