Lockheed Martin (LMT) and the Defense Department are close to an agreement on the "long-delayed" next order of F-35 fighter jets. The two sides have been at loggerheads over the $396B weapons program, the Pentagon's largest, since last December. LMT and its suppliers are already building the fifth batch of planes under a preliminary contract, and an agreement on the terms would free up additional funding for early work on a sixth set, which the company had been funding on its own for some time.
