Hey, somebody get a geometry education, if only in the name of accuracy.

Cotton, presently, is going "hyperbolic," an asymptotic curve heaved straight up the axis. A "parabolic" curve is like that formed by a bullet shot into the air (or close to a normal bell curve), where the curve first rises, then falls back to earth at the same pace, as gravity takes over.

Of course, in a few months, parabolic might then be the right description, when the traders sell off.

You are correct, but there is also an open upward parabola e.g. x**2
I think what they mean is that if you look at the right hand portion of that parabola, that along the positive x-axis starting from zero, you will see what they are referring to. It starts fairly slow, but as the numbers grow larger it becomes more and more vertical.

In either case, they are saying that something is having growth where the first derivative is tending towards positive infinity.

I don't think I would call it "hyperbolic" either. I mean, what's exaggerated? It is what it is. I might call its pricing stratospheric.
