The Supreme Court rules against parents suing Wyeth (PFE), reinforcing the protection that vaccines have against lawsuits - a victory for big suppliers including Pfizer, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), Merck (MRK) and Sanofi-Aventis (SNY).

    Actually, this is more of a government win. Pharmaceutical companies have tiny margins of profit on vaccines. They would surely not produce them at all if they had to deal with litigation regarding the relatively rare negative outcome. Pharmaceutical firms would make a lot more money selling drugs necessary to fight the increase in diseases that would result from a lack of vaccines.
