Reuters reports an Al Jazeera post that Libya's interior minister has defected and urged the army to join the protesters.

    The February 22nd internet edition of the UK’s ‘The Guardian’ has an excellent running report on Libyan developments as word about them comes out of Libya or as foreign governments and agencies respond to the situation. Here is the link.

    The best guess (and latterly no one really seems to know definitively where this is all heading) is that the Gaddafi regime is disintegrating but that
    (a) There is as yet no clear indication concerning who or what is available to take its place.
    (b) Elements of the Gaddafi regime military apparatus are fighting on by attacking essentially unarmed urban demonstrators.
    (c) The oil fields and related infrastructure has not been seriously damaged as yet but in the general breakdown of control one can not count on this continuing to be so.
