Heard on General Motors' (GM -0.9%) November sales call: 1) Trucks are a huge focus. Execs concede something will have to give with inventory elevated and competition intense. 2) The effect of replacement sales due to Hurricane Sandy damage benefited rivals more than GM due to their higher exposure in the Northeast. The skewed sales totals should see a leveling out in the near future. 3) The automaker sees November sales working out to a SAAR pace of 15.3M-15.5M vehicles, but defers on projecting 2013 numbers until the fiscal cliff is worked out in some form. Government Motors channel stuffing goes to new extremes. Dealer inventories grew to 788,000 in November versus 689,000 in September.

Sales were dominated by “fleet sales”. Who would that be to exactly, the Gumnut? Total sales were 186,500, equal to about 128 days inventory, about twice the norm. Trucks up to 139 days.

Where did you read that sales were dominated by fleet sales? There has been some emails around that said that 70% of GM's sales to the government but these were blatantly false. It doesn't say much about the people forwarding them either.

    Here's what GM said:

GM said its November sales rose 3 percent, led by a 30 percent gain at Cadillac and 22 percent increase at Buick

Doesn't really sound like government sales to me.
