News on the iPad (AAPL) is expected within the hour, and iSuppli expects hard-drive makers to feel it right on their income statements - with drive shipments expected to drop 3.9% Q/Q as tablets continue taking market share from laptops and even netbooks. Seagate (STX +2.2%) and Western Digital (WDC +1.5%) are up today but have fallen 16% and 11% YTD respectively.

    While it may be true that disk drive storage does keep getting more dense and faster access, so is solid state storage getting better and cheaper. For small, and especially portable, applications you may as well just give up on the disks. Numbers should just totally forget that segment of the market... There may be trading opps, but don't go near these as investments. Can you say "commodity"? Can you say "declining demand"...
