Though RIM's (RIMM) first BlackBerry 10 hardware sales are expected within 30 days of a Jan. 30 event, analysts at Detwiler Fenton say they "understand" its first QWERTY keyboard BB10 device won't arrive until June. Moreover, the firm believes AT&T and T-Mobile won't begin selling BB10 devices until March, and Verizon and Sprint until May. This leads Detwiler to think RIM will ship only 400K BB10 units in the Feb. quarter, and 2.2M-2.5M in the May quarter. The gloomy forecast comes as RIM says it will provide free BB10 server upgrades to customers who buy BB10 smartphones.

I would understand if Detwiler Fenton decides to not retract an apology when they are proven wrong.

Sorry, I meant to write that more sarcastically. I believe the analyst is full of something that comes out of the first 4 letters of his claimed profession.

I classify all these guys like Misek, Iron Fire , Fenton , CNBC , etc
    as the:
" I missed the $6 to $12 run in RIM while I held AAPL from $700 to $500 Club "

    BB10 a month late !!

So the analysts "understand" that the QUERTY keyboard is being released in June and this is a bad thing.

I would ask who are these analysts and how do they understand this when, apparently, nobody else does, yet?

Based upon some information gathered from the past these analysts are able to predict the future of RIM without even talking to the company.

Several centuries ago the MAYANS were able to predict the future but at least they utilized a vast store of knowledge that everyone at that time totally agreed with and totally believed in.

Common knowledge today tells us that the MAYAN calendar predicted that the world will end on December 21st 2012. That's in a little over 2 weeks!

Another interpretation of this MAYAN prediction is that the date of December 21st, 2012 marks the start of time in which Earth and its inhabitants may undergo a positive physical or spiritual transformation, and that Dec. 21, 2012 may mark the beginning of a new era.

Is it just a coincidence that RIM is announcing their last quarter results at end of day on December 20th, 2012? Obviously the Physical and/or spiritual transformation and the beginning of a new era starts on December 21st.

I rest my case to hear from the analyst who wrote this article.

P.S........... try and respond before December 20th!

look, none of these guys knows what is really going on and their comments is coming from their wallets. only way to know real story is an insider OR by its price action, and rimm is still on a blue pill.
next big date is dec20 for earnings, and keep happy shorting all..suckers!!)

It just shows that BBM is making a good which will blow our socks off. rather than rushing like the newer model iphones which always seem to have very little new features and released each year.
As long as something comes out then it's a plus!

I'll be excited to see it, might even get one. Personally I think all of the touchscreen products are terrible and difficult to use, I will be happy if RIMM can service the market of those either not delicate-fingered or those who value doing things on their phone quickly.

Agree, on the iPhone you have to touch the lower left-hand corner of the key. That's the only thing I miss about my clamshell, other than the fact it cost so much less than the iPhone.

But I like the fact that I can check where the bus is anywhere, play games, read ebooks, and check the internet (and how the market did) anywhere. I think (RIMM) should add those features.

And the mobile ads are annoying.

We agree - lot of good software innovation through touchscreens, but let's see how RIMM can integrate some of those concepts with a different hardware style. One that may not necessarily be dead!

I don't play games, but Google Maps works on BB7 and has up to date traffic and transit schedules. It's not available directly in the App Store, but easy enough to download from Google. The internet performance could definitely improve on BlackBerry smartphones, though dedicated apps like Bloomberg work quickly, as do many stock and forex apps. Definitely less choices, but some solid offerings.
