Loyalist forces have sights set on rebel stronghold Benghazi after taking the key town of Ajdabiyah. A human rights group warns of a Rwanda-type bloodbath if Gadaffi attacks Benghazi, a city of 670K. Failing to agree to even ask the U.N. for a no-fly zone, the G8 issues a strongly worded statement.

Exactly. They threatened that if Gadaffi does not stop, they will issue even a "stronger worded statement". And if Gadaffi commits genocide, they may even issue a "condemnation in strongest terms possible".

Regan's bombing Qadaffi palace was enough to stop his support for world terrorism. Everyone knows where Qadaffi is - a few well placed air strikes could just do the trick. Libya has few modern air defenses to speak of so the risk is very minimal.

    Let them eat words.

As soon as Russia and China approve, the UN will be forwarding cake as well.

Over the past 24 months the Regimes that occupy most Western nations have systematically abandoned the rule of law in economics , finance and social policy. Why not in geo-strategic matters as well?

I'll wager those suffering prisoners in Gadaffi inspired Hell-holes will take great comfort from such "a strongly worded statement".

Seeking a "no-fly" zone would only have made this situation worse. It would be the ultimate cop out. The G8 should lead, follow or just get out of the way. Holding Reagan's response up as a standard doesn't cut it either. The reason that mission failed is that it had to detour around France as I recall. Better to beg foregiveness than to ask permisssion.

I hate to say it but I think everyone is keeping their powder dry for a fight in Bahrain or Saudi Arabia. A regional conflict there is likely to be far worse than a civil war in Libya.
