In a rare nationwide address planned for tomorrow, Saudi King Abdullah will announce the replacement of several government ministers, an anti-corruption drive, and an increase in food subsidies in an attempt to placate his citizens.

    Ha! This is what happens when you don't read history.

     

    Revolutions only start to get serious after you try to placate them. Token reforms encourage the rebels and make it easier for them to recruit.

     

    He should schedule a day of rage to help people vent their frustrations. Then either become a Saddam-alike or schedule a transition to democracy. Everything else in the middle eventually fails.

    I agree. I think the people of Saudi Arabia probably saw right through his embarrassing bribe of "here, here's $37 billion for you to enjoy. You can have it as long as you promise not to rip my ass off". That's flat out insulting.

    I have zero use for the Saudi "royal" family or their regime, but I'm afraid what will follow them is going to be worse. Maybe a whole lot worse.
