Abandoning their planned animal health JV is a blow to Merck (MRK) and Sanofi (SNY) as they try to scale up in a consolidating industry. It's also a blow to smaller firms eager to buy assets Sanofi/Merck would have been forced to shed. The winner here is Pfizer Animal Health (PFE) which will retain its top spot in the market.

Own them all - MRK, PFE and SNY. This underappreciated sector will outperform as the world gets older and demands health care.
