Projections for the opening weekend of The Hobbitt: An Unexpected Journey in the U.S. range over $100M after the film soared to records in some global markets. While the movie is a big part of Time Warner's (TWX -0.4%) outlook for Q4 earnings, a bigger development for the industry as a whole is in play. Reviews for the film call the use of the ground-breaking 48 frames-per-second technology "insanely gorgeous." Will studios hit upon another moneymaker with the 48 fps format to build on the premium prices of IMAX showings?
