After paying through the nose for 3Par, Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) may have to keep ponying up at high valuations in order to catch up to IBM and Oracle (ORCL) in cloud computing. Red Hat (RHT), Informatica (INFA) and Tibco (TIBX) are likely pieces to the puzzle, but they trade at multiples between 24 and 42 - at least 38% more expensive than peer acquisitions in recent years.
