Dividend being maintained on NYMT on of the most under valued stocks in the mREIT sector. I do have a question for anyone who is knowledgeable; is the divie subject to 2013 income tax rates??

AGNC up nicely in aftermarket trading also. Frankly, I own two high yielding stocks. NYMT and EFC; tax treatment with EFC more complicated and always a good buy on dips imho.

Unless NYMT moves it up, and since it's due to be paid in 013, the dividend will be subject to the dividend tax rate in that year. Remember, even now, the special dividend tax rate of 15% in place only applies to qualified dividends. All other dividends are treated as regular income. What will go away (I assume) is the special treatment for qualified dividends. Sadly, I don't remember which rate usually applies to mREIT's (I used to do my own taxes, then I got caught....). If I had to bet though, I'd guess that the dividend we receive from mREIT's is not qualified. Therefore, we're already paying the the regular rate (the 50% of us that actually pay federal income taxes that is....). :-(
