whew, that was close.....FINALLY , A PLAN.....just in time, boy too bad the free market and 5 billion participants couldn't be left alone to solve it, no siree, I HAVE A PLAN.....A FKN PLAN!!?????? someone who's never done a days work in the oil/gas industry, let alone ANY private industry . funny how these briliant 'plans' come along in the 3 rd year of thier term, and coinciding with high gas prices, and a guy whose basically seen to be jimmy carter v2.0.....WOW... A PLAN.....
weeeeeeeeeeeeee, gas prices should automatically wrench downwards by 50%.............is anyone stupid enough to believe the 'plan' will work? i mean, this osunds like kids in thier treehouse..."ok i have a plan to get out of homework and get free icecream"
its called useless enthusiasm. just because you have 'a plan' doesn't MEAN anything.... EVERYONE HAS A FKN PLAN......turn off the tv, ignore this azzhole, and lets move on towrds 0% socialism and true free markets.

As Glenn Reynolds who runs the Instapundit blog always says when someone compares Obama to Carter, "a Carter rerun is now the best-case scenario..."

Simple way to cut oil imports: ban all private automobile usage. People need to walk to get over their obesity. And besides this plan will reduce pollution and the oceans will quit rising. :-(

since the first oil shock they have been talking about this issue, with no actual action from any of the eight Presidents since 1973.

    Ignore.

Doubtless another "green energy" pipe dream.

Hey, Obama! Jimmy Carter called - he wants his sweater and his energy policy back.

The President, on pattern, reacts...eventually, but seems to have little concept of unintended consequences.

I firmly believe the solution lies with the production of bio-based butanol. At this time we have any number of chemist teams working on producing enzymes capable of turning wood chips and crop waste into butanol. The last step is formulating a much more cost effective large scale refining process capable of being reproduced. Ethanol has per liter 70% of the energy of gasoline. Butanol has 90%, and isn't nearly as environmentally harmful as is ethanol. What this means is not only will a butanol/gasoline mixture create better efficiency than ethanol mixtures but a higher percent of butanol to gasoline can be mixed compared to ethanol. The end result is potentially a large decrease in gasoline imports creating a world supply/demand disruption that could bring world gasoline prices down.

My suggestion, create a Department of Energy with thousands of employees and a multi-billion dollar budget with the mandate to get the U.S. off of foreign oil.
Oh I forgot, Jimmy Carter did this about 40 years ago.

From the AP: "Experts report that President Obama was quoted as saying 'Make no mistake about it, what we need for our energy future is freedom from Middle East oil. That's why I've ordered my Secretary of Energy to call a meeting to discuss options for a synthetic-fuels plant. The tentative name is the Syn-fuels project.'"

For 100 points, within 3 seconds, name the Energy Secretary.

    Malaise II rolls on.

    On related news..

Transocean Ltd.is giving out bonuses because it had its "best year in safety performance" despite the explosion of its Deepwater Horizon rig that left 11 dead and oil gushing into the Gulf of Mexico, the world's largest offshore-rig company said in a securities filing Friday.

Are you for real? What damage can you do in an average year?
