With the BOJ printing, global supply lines compromised, and greater reliance on fossil fuels, the Japanese quake will stoke global inflation pressures, says Andy Xie. Longer term, it could mean the demise of nuclear power as even its supporters question it in light of its dangers.

  • A 50 year old nuclear reactor in an unplanned catastrophic failure mode still has a smaller public health impact than a properly functioning modern coal plant.

  • The sky is falling! The sky is falling! Should I book a cruise on a slow Baltic Dryship to one of China's potemkin Metropolii? Should I listen to the EPA and stop exhaling so that I won't pollute the planet? Should I ignore the quintillion percent increase in natural gas reserves in the last few months? Might I point out if the Arabs want cheap food (and water) maybe we can negotiate lower oil prices in exchange for it? Maybe we can stop bailing out the 40% of Americans who own their homes and start bailing out us 60% who don't?

In the 1970s we belatedly realized the Crisis-de-jour mentality was all a Jimmy Carter fixation; and elected Reagan to put an end to it all.

While I admit, human life is precious, but lets be honest - its not like anyone has the money to pay for higher utility bills right now either, is it? Greed will win, the media will continue to stoke the fires, and life will go on status quo mode again.
