American Express (AXP) CEO Kenneth Chenault is purported to have been approached by the White House about becoming Treasury Secretary. Although White House Chief of Staff Jack Lew remains the lead dog in the hunt for the job, just the mere consideration of Chenault among Obama’s staff may indicate the president is still on the fence over Geithner's replacement.

    Is Chenault a Republican?

The President would do everyone - especially his Administration - an immense favor by choosing a minimum two - preferably three - Centrist Republicans as new Cabinet Members - even better if one is a woman.

I still believe THE surprise and conciliatory choice for Treasury would be Michael Bloomberg, provided he would take it.

Hagel at Defense is also good.

And again, try for Christie Whitman or Olympia Snowe somewhere or other, like Commerce.
