France Telecom (FTE) is reportedly in talks to acquire Alcatel-Lucent's (ALU) undersea cable-laying unit, which could be worth €100-150M. A deal would be part of ALU's efforts to raise €1-1.5B by selling non-core assets. Meanwhile, French sovereign fund Fonds Strategique d'Investissement is thinking about purchasing a holding in the struggling telecom-equipment maker.
