More on Research In Motion's FQ3: CIO Robin Bienfait, who managed RIM's service infrastructure, is retiring at year's end. BlackBerry shipments -7% Q/Q and -51% Y/Y. Operating loss expected for FQ4 (expected), along with much higher marketing spend to support BB10 launch. RIM will consider "pricing initiatives" for BB7 devices. Gross margin rose 440 bps Q/Q and 320 bps Y/Y to 30.4%, played big role in EPS beat. Opex -2% Y/Y, a much smaller drop than for revenue. RIMM resumes trading at 4:40PM ET. CC at 5PM ET (webcast).     They do need to get a move on as far as advertising to the general public is concerned! Reading articles here makes it seem every man and his dog is familiar with BB10, but when I ask people outside of stock trading, they scratch their heads when I mention it! This could be bad news if they haven't got some serious attention by the end of January; other than for Apple products, the public needs time to get used to an idea before they flock to buy...
