The SNB of South America? Chile's central bank hikes rates for the 10th time in 11 months, lifting its benchmark 50 basis points to 4.5%. The actions of Chile stand in stark contrast to India and China, which have fallen behind the inflation curve, allowing real rates to turn sharply negative.

Chile's central bank has proved over the past few years to be run by highly competent, highly intelligent, highly educated individuals. I am never surprised by its prudent and well thought out actions. I forget the name of the guy in charge but I saw him interviewed once and was very impressed.
