Herbalife (HLF +8.5%) says it's hired a strategic adviser and will hold an analyst and investor meeting next month in an effort to counter criticism by Pershing Square's Bill Ackman. The company also is considering legal action, though it wasn't immediately clear what direction that might take. Last week, Ackman disclosed he has been betting against HLF for months and built up a massive short position, which in turn appears to have turned the Street against the nutritional supplement marketer.

A travesty... this should be illegal.. you should not be able to announce you are short a ton of stock during market hours and go on national tv to do so.... (kudos to cnbc for being the big tuna on ackman's hook) this is one more example why the markets are rigged against the individual investor.

It is callled fermenting. You create a story to take down a very successful company. It is not illegal but should be. Herbalife will be all right. Company is solid. Sales are brisk. I maintain a strong buy on HLF.
