China is about to auction its first leases as it seeks to tap into what is estimated to be the largest shale gas reserves on the planet. Deals between CNOOC (CEO) and Chesapeake (CHK), as well as Petrochina (PTR) and Encana (ECA) have allowed China to rapidly learn the necessary technology for shale gas extraction.

this wil change a lot of stuff

bad news for LNG projects - everywhere
not great news for Uranium suppliers
alternative energy will also take a hit

if they find large reserves of Nat gas they will exploit their own resource to the max.

China has proven to be more savvy dealing with the US than we with them. You can be assured China will come away with the bulk of the profit while any US firm will provide the capital and know-how. If they couldn't find a western partner willing to part with their technology for a pittance they'd just steal it eventually anyway.

China has a long term 'Plan', like it or not, and the USA does not,

We were given notice re: OIL in 1973, we turned our Christmas lights off for one President..He asked us to.. Yep that's our Plan..

    America is not united.. imho..

Thanks.. SA.. i have learned a lot from this site..
