Americans of a certain age may remember their parents returning from trips to Mexico with bags full of goods and tales of the low prices to be had. Canadians of 2011 feel the same way about the U.S., where the falling greenback has put a 20% off sale on items purchased in the States, according to BMO.

This is all my fault. I used to gently prod my Canadian friends about their "Monopoly money" and karma is now biting me in the butt.

You have to be careful. Canadians for the most part are thin-skinned and really have pride in their currency.

And no one remembers the '70s? I went on a French class trip to Quebec (a lot of good three years of French did me). I believe at the time one Canadian dollar was worth $1.35 US. Nothing new under the sun here - economies ebb and flow.

I just got back from a trip to Chile. I quickly realized I would have got more for my dollar in NYC, LA or at a professional sports stadium where hot dogs are $8. Thanks Bernanke and co.!

What does America make that Canadians are buying for such a discount? Even our flags are made in China.

Food and services might be cheaper, but I have a hard time believing they're leaving with bargain priced American made goods.

Believe it. The Mexicans would be coming for bargains if we would let them in.
